The Mexican land grant Rancho Rincón del Diablo shaped the valley that would become Escondido.
1886
The Escondido Land and Town Company laid out the town and divided surrounding land into farms.
October 8, 1888
Escondido incorporated, becoming one of San Diego County’s earliest incorporated cities.
20th century
Citrus, grapes, and avocados powered local growth before a postwar transition into a regional city.
Today
Arts, agriculture, wildlife conservation, small businesses, and outdoor spaces define the Hidden Valley.
